Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler angry that his name was involved in trade rumorsSubmitted by sly on February 28, 2009 - 4:08pm |
A couple of NFL teams are in dire need of a quarterback and apparently, before former Patriots Matt Cassel was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs, Cutler’s name was being thrown around as a trade possibility to teams like Detroit and Tampa Bay, as Denver was brought into the whole mix with the trade talks also involving the New England backup Cassel.
The trade deal according to NFL.com was a prospective three-way trade that would send Cutler to Tampa Bay and Cassel to Denver.
Broncos, obviously considered the idea of such a move with their new head coach Josh McDaniels getting reunited with a quarterback he just nurtured, but the organization decided not to go with the move. Denver also has always mentioned that trading Cutler was not an option; rather teams approached Denver to make a trade for the quarterback.
The deal might have been a possibility because Detroit was interested in the same idea pitched by Tampa Bay, but the Patriots traded Cassel to the Broncos Western Division rival, the Kansas City Chiefs.
