Brett Favre clears the air on ‘Joe Buck Live’ about playing for Minnesota Vikings in 2009

Joe Buck began his new show on HBO, 'Joe Buck Live' with a bang, bringing out Brett Favre as his first guest.

It didn’t take long for Joe Buck to address “the elephant in the room” as he put it in addressing the Minnesota Vikings issue straight away.

The first question was simple, do you plan on playing in the NFL next year? To a crowd pleasing coy phrase Favre began with “maybe”. He then quickly followed with an “I am considering it."

The questioning then followed a straight line to all the stories that have been brewing the last couple of weeks. If you are not interested in this season's Favre drama, then the following direct quotes from Favre himself won’t matter much.

But if you have been keeping an ear and an eye on the situation, you will know the question asked just by reading the Favre quote. Hopefully this will answer all your questions on whether Favre will play in Minnesota this coming season.

“About 2 ½ weeks Dr. Andrews did the surgery…4-5 weeks to know if it was completely successful.”

“I could throw before the surgery but I would aim there and it would go over there.”

“Certain throws hurt, pain in my neck and down into my arm.”

“Rehabbing to get back in shape…I have talked with the Vikings.”

“I met with their (Vikings) trainer yesterday and all it was about was to go through some excersises that could help with the rehab. That was it, some different stretching, band work.”

“It is an offense that I have ran for 16 years…I could teach the offense.”

“New York was…I got there late…it was a totally new offense. Mangini, Brian Shottenheimer condensed it down for me, but it was like a foreign language.”

“The pieces are in place, they do have a great running back, they have a great running game. If I do go there, there are no guarantees.”

“Understanding what is expected of you, knowing when you need to throw the ball…we should be pretty good.” (The ‘we’ caught me off-guard as well, he is already talking like he is on the team but it just could have been a slip as well).

“You can’t go anything more past than the arm. If it is not up to par, then I can’t play. If it feels like it did before it started hurting, than that...the biggest question mark is out of the way.”

“Coach Childress asked if I would go to OTAs…I chose not to. Knowing that there is no guarantee that my arm will be like it was before, I chose to stay away. I figured there would be a media frenzy if I was there and there would be a media frenzy if I couldn’t play. It’s either all or nothing to me.”

“Vince Lombardi went to the Washington Redskins and I don’t hear anyone telling him ‘Damn traitor’. The 16 years I spent there, you can’t take away.”

Thank you Joe Buck for ending this by letting us all know that Favre is a Viking if his arm heals correctly and congratulations on your new show.

Favre had the surgery 2 ½ weeks ago and according to the world renown doctor, it will take anywhere from another week and a half to two and a half more to give us the final answer on the Favre saga 2009.
